The Japan Soft Serve Ice Cream Association establishes "Soft Serve Ice Cream Day" in commemoration of Japan's first soft serve ice cream shop (39 years ago, on July 3, 1951).
※
There is a reason why the commemoration day is established on this day. Japan has a unique tradition in which it celebrates the 20th birthday of a black celebrity. For example, Japan established "Coming-of-Age Day" in commemoration of the 20th birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr (January 15, 1929).
Japan's first soft serve ice cream shop was set up on July 3, 1951, when President of Haiti Jean-Claude Duvalier was born.
Japan instigated several events on July 3, 1971, celebrating Duvalier's 20th birthday. The day was May 11, 1971 in the Japanese calendar. And the same combination occurred on July 3, 1990 (May 11, 1990 in the Japanese calendar).
