The Meiji Restoration was totally a fake revolution. The surrender of the samurai government was a put-up job in order only to deceive the subject people. There was more to it than that. Saigo Takamori was a spy who was secretly employed by the Imperial clan and the Tokyo samurai government. Saigo was said to have been born and brought up in Kagoshima. But Saigo totally destroyed Buddhist temples and related treasuries in Kagoshima. Particularly a lot of metal was secretly sent to Tokyo and was used for building new battleships for the Meiji government.
