March 12, 2011 - ★Kyushu Shinkansen section from Yatsushiro to Hakata opens.
However, opening ceremonies are canceled due to 2011 Sendai earthquake and tsunami.
The Shinkansen, also known as the bullet train, is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies.
The opening is auspicious not only for Hakata and Yatsushiro but also for Kagoshima. Kagoshima is finally connected to the national bullet train transportation system.
Kagoshima used to be a major and powerful region in japan. Around 16th century, Kagoshima was controlled by the Satsuma domain, one of the most powerful feudal domains in Japan under the Tokugawa shogunate. However, due to the insidious segregation strategy by the Tokugawa clan, Kagoshima has been bullied and undermined continually for about 400 years. The connection of the bullet train system is actually auspicious for Kagoshima, but irritating for some Tokyoites, particularly for the Tokugawa clan.
So, the earthquake that happened on March 11 was too timely to deny the government's conspiracy.
